The Story

Hokusai kinda made waves with his 1833โ€“1834 series of woodblock prints entitled โ€œA Tour of the Waterfalls of the Provincesโ€, because he was the first ukiyo-e artist to use a theme of falling water. As a follower of Nichiren Buddhism, Hokusai likely created these artworks with the gods and spirits said to inhabit the waterfalls in mind.
